Each July 16, the Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of the Mount Carmel. I have a special connection with this Marian advocation, because my home parish is Our Lady of the Mount Carmel in Medellín, Colombia. I want all of us to hear from our beloved Pastor, Fr. Hart, about this wonderful celebration of our Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Remember, The parish that we dream is the parish that I help to build!

Our Lady of the Mount Carmel

Maybe you remember… and maybe you do not. Still most of us on the occasion of First Communion were invested with the brown scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Although most of us did not really understand what was going on, we were initiated into the blessed and favored union of the Carmelites on whom Our Blessed Mother has showered special gifts and promises. Quite a common experience today is to hear some scorn poured out on the Scapular and its promises. I do not join or endorse such derision. I have learned something about Carmel since my First Holy Communion. When I had the opportunity once in my life, I made sure that I visited Mount Carmel and its Monastery. It was in the very early hours of the morning. Again not uncommon, there was little peace in the Holy Land where the Mount of Carmel is. Still, I was happy to be able to be there. And so:
FEAST OF THE MOUNT CARMEL – I CALL ON ALL OF YOU ENROLLED IN THE ORDER OF CARMEL. You must renew your love for her… and your confidence. Surely you could be saved without special devotion to Mary, but we are told on the greatest spiritual authority that it is a difficult road to tread without her. Be ON GUARD now lest you lose hold on the Refuge of Sinners and the Help of Christians. Sometimes I believe that she is the best hope we have to save our immortal souls. If that sounds a bit old-fashioned, you had best know that it is as true as ever.
QUEEN OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY, PRAY FOR ALL SINNERS.
